DADA: A Performance
fall '06
performance
Performed September 6, 2006 at the Springer Cultural Center in Champaign, Illinois for the opening of the Behind the Facade exhibit, this performance is based off the cathartic reaction Dada artists expressed after the horrors of World War One. In an anarchical attempt to deconstruct the society and culture that had allowed and promoted the atrocities of the First World War Dada artists reverted to a nonsensical poems and artworks.
The links between this performance and Dada art are intentionally blatant in order to break through the estrangement many veterans, including myself, feel to society, and hence construct a historical understanding of self.
